ACTS - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Welcome to our Frequently Asked Question Section. What we wnat to do is give you as much information as possible and at the same time strive to answer all your questions.

1. What is ACTS?
It stands for “Assist a Child to School”

2. What is ACTS target area?
Kongowea/Kengeleni zone, a slum area north of Mombasa town, Kenya.

3. How does ACTS assist children?
The Charity recruits and enables children in its target area access to quality education and training thereby enhancing their chances of a secure future.

4. What levels of education is assistance given?
Primary level (8 years of schooling), Secondary level (4 years of schooling) and Third/Tertiary level certificate (6 months to 2 years); diploma (2 to 3 & a half years) and University (4 to 5 years).

5. What documentation should a parent,guardian or relative have?
The parent/guardian will be requested to fill out ACTS form clearly and answer all the questions truthfully.  The parent takes the form to the local area chief (government officer) to verify that the family live in our target area.  If an orphan with a guardian, there should be proof of the child’s parents demise e.g. burial permit and/or death certificate.

6. What is the sponsorship criterion?
Student must come from our target area.Home visits establish the child is genuinely in need of help.Availability of funds is a MUST.

7. How long does the sponsorship take?
Once a student is enrolled with ACTS, they are sponsored up to college/tertiary level to attain skills that they can turn into earnings.

8. Do the students get to meet the Sponsors?
Yes.Sponsors who come on holiday and wish to meet the students are welcome.The administrator or a volunteer will make the necessary arrangements.

9. How is evaluation and monitoring of the students done?
At the end of each end term/semester, the student MUST report to the ACTS office with the progress report and if the student does not have a progress report, they must report to the office and explain why.  The ACTS administrator gets an opportunity to keep in touch with each student, discuss their progress and listen to any challenges students are encountering while in school/college.

10. How many students are currently being funded by the Charity?
A total of 550 students are under ACTS program.

11. Apart from Sponsorship and/or Scholarships, what other programmes are undertaken by ACTS?
ACTS has several other programmes that compliment the core program, i.e. Sponsorship.  These are, Lunch/Porridge Program, Medical Program and Schools Support Program.
