What did your child learn at school today ?

Desks and Books

ACTS feels that without adequate basic resources such as desks and books, the children in the Kongowea schools are not being given a fair chance at succeeding with their education.

That is why our Schools Support program is a vital part of our overall mission. It’s a fact that thousands of primary and secondary children who go to school in the very poor slum areas of Mombasa have no desks or classroom furniture and very few textbooks or other resources available for their education.

From very young children such as these kindergarten students, right though to the top end of secondary school and those taking their A level equivalent, many children have to suffer the hard unwelcoming concrete floors as they pursue their studies, often without even the most basic of textbooks.

These are terrible conditions for the children, so very different from those that most of us grew up with and a lifetime away from the conditions that most modern children are blessed with today.

Thanks to the generous donations from many caring ACTS supporters and active fundraisers in the UK, Ireland, Kenya, and many other countries, we are slowly helping to equip many classrooms with desks, as well as giving them a lick of paint to brighten them up and provide a suitable learning environment for local children.
